BDI Webinar: Nondestructive Testing of Embedded Steel Anchors for Integrity and Tension

Tuesday, July 12, 2022
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM ET

Presenter:
Shane Boone, PHD
Senior Vice President – Nondestructive Evaluation

Registration Link: https://bit.ly/3xft3X4

Steel anchors embedded in monolithic concrete structures such as dams, sign structures, movable bridges, and wind towers are subjected to environmental degradation mechanisms (corrosion) and often prestressing loads. To date, there have been limited nondestructive testing methodologies to inspect these structural members. During this complimentary one-hour webinar, Dr. Boone will report on new methods to identify and quantify degradation as well as determine the residual tension in these members using novel ultrasonic testing and analysis.

Attendees will learn the following:

  • How to quantify residual tension and degradation using Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of steel rods and anchor bolts
  • The basics of wave propagation through elastic medium
  • How dams, hydraulic steel structures, wind towers, and other structures are typically designed with steel anchors and prestressed steel rods
  • The importance of flawed steel specimen design and testing when determining quantities of degradation

A certificate of attendance will be provided upon request.
